Victory Garden For the New Millennium
In WWII people were encouraged to grow victory gardens in an effort to support the troops, to make us more self-sufficient, and to encourage the attitude that citizens can help hasten victory. The Victory Gardens were important psychologically. They made people feel they were contributing.
During our invasion of Iraq, we were given no suggestions as to how to foster civic engagement beyond the suggestion that we go shopping. I created a Victory Garden for the New Millennium /Middle East version as a response.
