The visual language: flowers, ornate text, wreath and urn forms-are commonly used in commemoration and “momento mori” but the materials are kitschy and degraded. These objects take themselves seriously, but they are also absurd. An important aspects of this work is resistance to contributing to environmental costs of manufacturing and shipping materials. The materials were all reclaimed/recycled/plucked from the waste stream: donated, located in thrift stores or garage sales, or otherwise recycled.
