My interest in the intersection between private and public has led to a fascination with commemorative gestures and ad-hoc memorials: unsanctioned informal gestures like congratulatory wreaths and roadside tributes, often made with humble materials. How tragic is it that these memorials can be reused, as the individual and collective losses we suffer mount? Each of us may remember or mourn for a different reason, but the prevalence of the sentiment binds us.
