Elise Goldstein, MFA student at SAIC and Excavating History 2009 participant, in her performance on the steps of the Chicago Cultural Center. The performance is about the Pilgrim Baptist church, where Thomas Dorsey invented gospel music. The church, designed by Louis Sullivan, was almost destroyed by fire in 2006. Here she washes white gloves which she earlier used to deliver a healing and cleansing touch to the inside of the sanctuary, while another performer sings Dorsey's "Peace in the Valley"
